US Postal Service
1995 - 2001
Tyler turned professional in 1995, after signing with the Montgomery Bell Cycling Team which eventually became known as the U.S. Postal Service Cycling Team in 1996. He competed in the Tour de France for the first of eight times in 1997.
Tyler learned a tremendous amount while riding for this team. He advanced through the ranks of domestic racing in 1995 and 1996 to join the team for their first full season based in Europe in 1997. He was afforded opportunities to lead the team in smaller races and individual time trials but is most remembered for his ability and service as one of the team's most dependable domestiques.
He rode alongside Lance Armstrong as one of his primary lieutenants during the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Tour de France.
