Race Career History
Tyler has experienced the extreme highs and lows a sports career can offer. That said, he still loves to ride and compete and believe firmly in the power of the bike!
The Beginning
In his youth, Tyler Hamilton attended Fryeburg Ski Academy in Maine and Holderness School in Plymouth, New Hampshire. After graduating from Holderness in 1990, he attended the University of Colorado at Boulder through 1994, majoring in Economics and competing on the alpine ski team. A back injury in the fall of 1991 ended his ski career. But by the spring of 1992 he was using cycling to regain his fitness and eventually joined the CU Cycling Club. By spring of 1993 he had become NCAA National Cycling Champion. That honor lead to his being invited to join the US National Cycling Team based in Colorado Springs. He left CU with one semester of course work remaining before graduation to take advantage of the opportunity to travel around the world competing as an amateur cyclist.
