MS Global 2008 : Stage 2

The Copper Triangle

The famous copper triangle is about an eighty mile loop traversing three famous high Colorado mountain passes. It provided an excellent and challenging second day of riding for group.

The sun was out early as we headed up East out of the Vail valley on to the bike path that leads over Vail Pass (10,549') and down to the Copper Mountian ski resort.  Then taking a southerly turn we headed up a long winding climb over Fremont Pass (11,095') and then dropped into Leadville for a light lunch. After lunch we had one last mountain pass to climb, Tennesse Pass (10,494'). We were moistened by a passing thunder shower that spit heavy rain, a little hail and some light snow on us for about 20 minutes on our way over the pass. The storm passed quickly and we rode on down the winding and senic state highway back toward Vail.
